The police in Lagos have arrested two robbery suspects ─ Olalekan Durojaiye (20) and Femi Kromoga (27) – for attempting to rob a woman, Mrs. Mary Nwanfor of her handbag and causing grievous injuries to her two-year-old child, Samuel.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the robbers threw the baby to the ground at Salami bus stop, in the Shasha area of the state, while attempting to steal from her mother who resisted attempt to dispossess her of her handbag.
Our correspondent learnt that Durojaiye and Kromoga belonged to a syndicate that used motorcycles to rob residents of their valuables.
They were said to have met their waterloo while robbing Nwanfor on Saturday, November 21, around 8pm.
Our correspondent learnt that the victim was returning from her place of work with her child, when she was accosted by the suspects.
Nwafor said, “I was returning from work and was at the bus stop, waiting for another bus to take me home.
“While waiting, the suspects rode on their motorcycle and stopped in my front. They dragged my bag from me and when I did not release it, one of them took my baby and threw him on the floor. The baby hit his head on the ground.
“I was left with no option but to release the bag to them, because the baby was bleeding.”
Our correspondent learnt that as the suspects sped off, a mob gave them a chase and apprehended them.
They were said to have been beaten to a pulp before being handed over to the police.
Samuel was rushed to a hospital, where he was treated for the injuries.
The suspects were on Monday arraigned before a Shasha Magistrate’s Court on two counts of stealing and causing grievous harm.
They pleaded not guilty to the offences.
The magistrate, Mrs. J.O. Adeyemi, granted them bail in the sum of N50, 000 with two sureties in like sum.
The matter was adjourned till December 11, 2015.
